Artist - Rashid Rana

Facade

Architecture Becomes Art

Renowned artist Rashid Rana transforms the Pakistan Pavilion into one of the largest works of its kind. The artistic intervention, “Unity of All that Appears” comprises twenty-four thousand seemingly identical but all, in fact unique pieces, fractionally different from each other in size and color, meld together in harmony.

The work draws inspiration from the diversity that Pakistan has to offer. Rana says, “Pakistan is one of the most diverse regions on the planet; geographically, climatically, culturally, racially, and ethnically.”

Rashid Rana, one of the leading artists in South Asia today, is known for conceptual innovation and dramatic visual strategies. He is the recipient of the 2017 Asia Art Award by the Asia Society (New York) and the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, a prestigious civilian honour conferred by the President of Pakistan. His works are housed in prestigious collections including the British Museum (London) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York).
